‘Twas the Night Before Christmas: Hospice Edition

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, except for the spouse
Who sat by the bedside of their loved one with care
As they entered their final days with grace and with prayer

The hospice nurse came in with a smile on her face
She knew how to comfort and how to give grace
She checked on the patient, and then left the room
Leaving the spouse with their love, in the quiet and the gloom

But then, something magical happened that night
The patient's face lit up, and they took in the sight
Of a jolly old man, with a beard white as snow
Who had come to visit, and to let them know

That they weren't alone, in this journey's last mile
That they were loved and supported, all the while
The patient's eyes sparkled, and their smile grew wide
As they listened to the old man, and his heartwarming pride

In the love that surrounds us, and the gifts we can give
In the moments that matter, and the way that we live
And with that, the patient closed their eyes for the night
Feeling peace and joy, in the presence of the right

The spouse left the room, with a heart full of cheer
Knowing that their loved one was at peace, and very near
To the love and the light, that they'd always known
Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

Happy holidays, everyone, from all of us here at Coastal!
