Home (Health) For The Holidays
Being on home health care any time of the year can be hard, but it can be especially difficult over the holidays.
The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas can be one of the busiest times of the year. Between holiday dinners and parties, Christmas shopping, and hosting visiting family members, it can be difficult to find time to sit back and enjoy the season!
But when you aren’t feeling well, it can be difficult to balance the feelings of responsibility for making the holiday feel special for your loved ones, and the need to take things slower so that you can recover and get back on your feet.
Remember- the best holidays are the ones spent with the people we love, even if there isn’t much else going on.
So cut yourself some slack, and take as much time to rest as you need to.
Spend more time focusing on sharing stories and memories, savoring the moments, and really noticing and appreciating all the little details of the holidays.
If you want to make something or do something, be sure to pace yourself and be very selective. For instance, rather than trying to cook eight special Thanksgiving side dishes like you may have done in years past, focus on making just one or two. Rather than decorating every square inch of your yard with Christmas decorations, choose a wreath for the door and perhaps one or two accents.
Better yet, ask your loved ones to help you. Not only will it take some of the pressure off you, but it will also give you even more time to spend with the people you care about the most.
Holidays are the time of year to feel joy and love- not guilt and regret. Give yourself the gift of self-care, and allow yourself to take all the time you need to heal and recover.
