Pillow Talk

Most people only associate their pillow with sleeping. But when you are bed bound, your pillow becomes a much more critical part of your daily life. There are so many options that can help make you more comfortable. Here are a few ideas you may not have considered:

The U

Long, U-shaped pillows  are great for supporting you if, for instance, you tend to sleep on your back, but need to sleep on your side to prevent bedsores. They also help you feel cozy and snuggled in your bed, and give you a great armrest for things like reading or crafting. And if you’d like a bit of support behind your knees as well, try this O-shaped pillow instead.

The Wedge

Everyone who is in bed for long periods of time should consider getting a wedge cushion. If you don’t have one, your only sleeping options are back, sides, or front. The wedge allows you to position yourself halfway in-between any of those positions, giving you far more options for finding a comfortable position.

A Little Column A… A Little Column B

This cool cross-sleeper pillow from Pillow Cube is composed of two unique halves- one half is designed for side-sleeping, and the other half is designed for back sleeping. Having as many options as possible is ideal if you’re bed bound, and with this design, you won’t even have to find a second pillow if you want to change positions in the middle of the night.

A Bedsore Mini-Mattress for Under Your Hips

Because there are bony areas on all sides of the hips, they can be very susceptible to bed sores. This fluid and air-filled pad can be used flat or can be inflated to help support you while resting on your sides. Because it helps distribute your weight over a wider area than just the parts of your body that would normally absorb most of the pressure, it can make lying down for long periods of time much more comfortable.

A Rolling Pillow for Between Your Legs

Sure, you could just use a normal pillow between your legs, but they can be a bit of a pain to keep in place while you are sleeping or rolling over. This rolling pillow design is made of a slick material, so it won’t catch on your covers as you turn, and it can also be used for lying on your back with your legs elevated.

A Mix-and-Match Wedge System

Why settle for just one or two pillows when you could have a whole system? Convertible wedge systems, like this one from Amazon, can be stacked, moved, or removed depending on your positioning needs. These are a great tool for preventing bedsores, plus they also help you get in comfortable positions for watching TV, reading, and sleeping with your feet or head elevated.
